The Side Chick Trend

 

I've shared relationships knowingly and unknowingly. 

I wouldn't characterize it as side chick behavior. I believed that I received a shitty hand of cards and, I was too deep to differentiate between the side chick or the other woman. 

Now, the side chick persona has become a popular trend in the Millennial era. Being a side chick requires a certain amount of vulnerability, accountability, and communication to sustain such an arrangement. It is the fun and easygoing girl that provided relief from the monotony of a man's everyday life. It's not an attractive option but, being a side chick has the benefits of a relationship without working for it. Traditionally, it was taboo for women to indulge in this type of behavior. The derogatory terms that describe such an immoral woman have become quite flattering. Side chicks' stories are trending on the Internet and providing a sense of entertainment to their readers. Some women are afraid to push for commitment. A woman's past experiences have changed the relationship course. They have chosen an easier way to secure a situation-ship. 

Why being a side chick is popular:

1. The side chick has no obligations to the man. While the man is trying to ensure his girlfriend/wife suspects nothing, she gets as much space that she needs.
2. It's an argument-free zone. When a man needs relief from his commitments, the side chick is his breath of fresh air. 
3. The sex is mind-blown. A man will offer nothing but amazing sex when he has something to prove to the side chick.
4. The pay-out is real. If the man has deep pockets, she doesn't mind being the side chick. 
5. The man satisfies her demands. The side chick doesn't view the wife/girlfriend as a problem once the man provides.

Is being a side chick the better option?

According to the online trend, it seems to be working for most women. However, a woman will recognize that it brings temporary happiness and no real relationship. By settling, you have shown that you don't require loyalty, respect, and exclusivity to be kept. We have seen on 'Love & Hip Hop' that women treat other women terribly for the sake of their male partners. It's overrated.

Side chicks get hurt too. If you are waiting on a man who is only available on his time, it's not empowering. You are weakening your sensibilities for money and orgasms. Self-love brings out a strong, confident, and secure woman. When you truly love yourself, you will know what boundaries to set and when to walk away.
